Thistledowne is a family house available to rent as a holiday let from a minimum two days up to one month. It is located in a quiet area of Sunderland just a 20 minute walk from the Stadium of Light and a minute or so on foot from the University of Sunderland Sir Tom Cowie campus and the David Puttnam Media Centre. The house is close to both river and coast with the marina and Roker beach nearby. The National Glass Centre, with its cafe overlooking the river, is a two minute stroll away.

The house is suitable for both business people who prefer to self-cater and those with a young family seeking just that little more space than the average hotel room.

There is off road parking for one car and room for another on the road in front of the house. A regular bus service runs from the university to the city centre six days a week although the centre can be reached by walking along the river path and over Wearmouth Bridge in about 20 minutes. The house is situated a 15 minute walk from St Peter's Metro station. The sea to sea (C2C) cycle route finishes on Roker beach (15 minute stroll) and the cycle route follows the nearby path along the river.
